As an amateur photographer breaking into portrait photography, or people photography in general, has been the hardest for me. I don’t know whether it is finding people who are willing to be photographed or the anxiety of seeing someones reaction to the pictures I am taking. The thing I love about most other types of photography is that the subject of the picture never has an opinion about the final product. I have become comfortable with a type of photography that only allows for subjective opinions of the pictures by people not actually part of the pictures. It is truly inspiring to me to look at wedding and portrait photographers blogs and see the results they are able to achieve. Learning to create comfort and smiles out of nothing and posing subjects to tell a story about their lives has just been something I have not been able to figure out yet. So, for now, I will settle for photography of still life, nature and animals, landscape and macro. And someday, hopefully the learning curve for portrait photography will be steep.
